Jocelyn’s Top 5 Picks

Υεια σου! Welcome back to my blog!!

This week, I will share with you my top 5 places that are a MUST see when you are staying in Athens, Greece. The area that I am currently staying is Agia Paraskevi which is about 30 minutes away by train to Athens. Agia Paraskevi is a suburb city that is filled with beautiful views of the mountains. The streets are filled with many shops, especially my favorite, H&M! While being here, I find myself discovering new food and new local shops that I fall in love with more and more each day! The first stop that I highly recommend when visiting Athens would be Monastiraki Square.  Monastiraki is the heart of Athens, filled with shops, flea markets and especially the Acropolis. Next stop, my favorite stop so far, would be Lake Vouliagmeni. This lake is in Athenia Regina which is surrounded by beautiful beaches and lakes. When I first arrived in Athens, I adjusted to the suburban life pretty quickly and immersing myself in the mediterranean lifestyle. What I did not realize that I would miss the most would be seeing the ocean and smelling the sea air. Lake Vouliagmeni also has little tiny fishes that nibble at the dead skin on your feet. This experience is supposed to be cleansing and relaxing, which is possible once you get passed all the giggles from the fish! Next stop, Corinth! My first city outside of Athens that I had the chance to visit when I first arrived here in Greece. Corinth is known for their ancient ruins and beaches. The square is filled with statues and mosaics on the floor of different gods and goddesses. This is was the first time that I had seen water since being away from home and it was the first time that I felt like I was home in Greece. After a day of exploring, you can  build up an appetite. Luckily, there are many restaurants around to help fill your craving. One of my favorite places to eat is MILF in Agia Paraskevi. My go-to order is the chicken souvlaki, gyro for 4 euros. The price and the food makes this restaurant a must  for a quick-bite when you need it. Another beautiful thing about staying in Athens is that there are many hiking trails around that are perfect for watching the view of the sunset. There is a beautiful hiking trail right behind Deree College, which is perfect and convenient.  A perfect bonus while walking on the trail is that you get to say hi and pet the dogs of the area and watch a sunset with a beautiful view of the city! There are many places that I have not seen yet that I am looking forward to exploring. Greece is a beautiful and easy country to explore with public transportation being easily available. With spring break coming up, I will be sure to venture out into Europe and discover places that I have never been before! Stay tuned to read more about my time abroad in Greece and the adventures that lie ahead!
